Heading Up, Up, Up (East Coast) Clearwater to Myrtle Beach 5/5 - 5/10/2014

Today (5/4/14) is packing day.  We leave tomorrow heading to beautiful Savannah, GA.  We were there last year and I love it.  We have friends to see there, excited.

Nice drive to Savannah.  Saw this pretty little country church on drive over.

We went down to the water front and had dinner.  I had my first taste of "she crab bisque" now a favorite of mine.

Down at the waterfront

City Hall
The clock chimes on the hour

Tuesday, drove downtown to see some homes, parks and the Colony Park Cemetery.

Breathtaking architecture

One of the most beautiful
church's I've ever seen

Owens-Thomas House - 1819

Had lunch at the Pirates' House, listed in top 100 restaurants in the U.S.  Had She Crab Soup.  Authentic pub from 1700's where real pirates used to meet up.

Tuesday evening we took the Ghosts & Gravestones Night Tour.  It is said that Savannah is the most haunted city in America and we didn't want to miss out.

For our last day (5/7/14) we toured the Mercer house that was featured in the book Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.  I read that book last time we were here.  They also made a movie based on the book - a true story.

Lastly, our evening with new friend Stacy, a gal we met through CS in Florida who moved to Savannah, at Lady & Sons, which is Paula Deens restaurant.

Up early on Thursday to drive to Columbia, SC.  Visited with my friend, Charles, in Irmo, SC on his mini farm.  He built a replica old time blacksmith shop, sells fruits/veggies/flowers, antiques, has geese, goats, chickens all on several acres that is his wife's family's homestead since 1800's.  Wonderful tour and a goat pulled and tried to eat my hair which was quite a surprise.

Charles refurbished this
He bought me a .10 coke

1919 Ford restored by Charles

Hundred of different Irises

Baby goat

Friday, off to Hopesewee Plantation.  The crop they grew here was rice.  It was interesting and we learned a lot of new things.  Had a lovely lunch of creole sausage and shrimp at the tea house.   Side trip to Georgetown, SC.

We had a wonderful lunch

Heading to Myrtle Beach, SC, fun capitol of this state.  We just found out that it is Bike Week and it wasn't hard to discover.  Bikes everywhere.  We may get some good photos.  Brings back memories when we'd go to big bike runs.  Traffic is going to be terrible and we're here on the weekend.  Maybe we'll just stay in and rest...........................

We'll be here for 3 days, which includes Mother's Day and my birthday (same day this year).  How can I turn 64?  Mentally I don't feel it, but on these long travel/walk days I know it is true.   I'm pretty sure I'm going to get some crab to eat.

I am trying to keep this short and sweet.  All our photos are on Facebook if you want to see them all.
