Mexifest and Bakery Quest

What a fun day of eating.  John and I have decided that as we cross the country we are going to eat Mexican food at every opportunity to find the very best.  We've had lunch at two places so far -- both in the state of Washington, and both rated 8.5s out of 10.  It will be a real bummer when we hit a "5" I'm sure, but this should be a blast for us.

We left Kelowna today.  We spent so much time with Paula every day this last week and we will miss her so much.  We were very comfortable, got rested, "chilled" and in general had a relaxing time with our dear friends the Gubbels.  Thanks so much for your warm hospitality, numerous cups of coffee, great bakery searches, cheese, comfy bed and good times.

On our way to Richland today I happened to see the road sign that said "Leavenworth" and that was a big mistake.  Having been there twice before -- and knowing that my favorite pastry in the world is there -- we HAD to make a 2 1/2 total time detour.  The bakery was right where I remembered and we actually spent over $20.00 getting our delicious baked treats.  I dream of my Danish waffles that I can only find in Leavenworth and Solvang, CA.  I have almost ordered some online, but they are so expensive and just a few are never enough.  So our side trip was great and we got into Richland after dark (9:00 p.m.).

We've made some new rules for our  traveling and I'm sure we will make more as we go along.

1.  whatever time we think we will arrive, we will add 2 hours to the estimated time of arrival -- this way we won't "be late", and

2.  we are going to have to get moving and on the road before 11:00 a.m.  We are going to try to be on the road by 9:00 a.m. on driving days.

As we go along on our trip we will make adjustments to accommodate our travel style.  We just don't make time, but I'll say that we laugh along the way and we're having lots of fun.
