December 2020 - A different Christmas - the Covid Christmas

Was treated to Escape Room (late birthday present) from Amigas and it was challenging to say the least.  After dinner we met Val at French's on Clearwater Beach for our Christmas celebration.  It was a fun evening.

Took a five day trip to St. Augustine with Gwen, night at Daytona Beach, ate so much tasty food.  Started with a Walking Tour and learned lots of history, oldest city in the United States.  Toured distillery that surprisingly made run, gin, vodka and bourbon.  We had a tiny taste of each type along with their special mixers.  Took a night time holiday boat tour to see the famous St. Augustine Christmas lights.  Had several bowls of She Crab soup which made my holiday bright and tasty.  Enjoyed lunch on the pier at Joe's Crab Shack and then stopped for some salt water taffy (haven't had that for such a long time).  A best pizza at Captain Pizza, just a hole in the wall, but so darn good.  Walked on the beach and just had a good, restful time.

Had my friends Hilda and Rosa for lunch and stupidly forgot to take a picture.  Here is the table, we ate outside on the patio and it was nice.

It was a little windy so I had to put down painted
rocks to hold table cloth down.  Practical use
of the rocks.

Lovely Christmas dinner with my (I just wrote "our" -- I always speak of us) dear friends Dave and Heather.  Our annual "Castaway" get together, but cut down to a very small group.  Somehow Dave didn't cut down on the size of the prime rib.  So fun to spend time with friends and enjoy a lovely dinner.  Thanks Dave and Heather, that pretty much was my Christmas celebration.

Almost end of the year and took a nice "stroll" in Walshingham Park with Heather.  I'd never been there and it is a picturesque park with excellent walking paths.  We walked (strolled) 2 miles.  Heather walks with another friend once a week and she said they walk 6 miles.  I appreciated her going with me.

New Year's Eve day I had Sue and Q and Vickt over at 12 noon - our New Year's Celebration.  I made Crab Soup and Funeral Sandwiches.  The soup was a disappointment and I'll have to experiment with different recipes.  At $23 a can for crab meat I won't be making it often.  That was a bummer, but live and learn, my first time trying.  I adore crab soup so do want to try another recipe.  The one I used looked decent.  It wasn't awful, just no flavor.

New Year's Eve was home and watch the ball drop.  Pretty uneventful.  Recalled the big parties in Boise, out in the snow, shooting off fireworks and once a shotgun (quite a memory).  But just glad to get this year behind us and hope that we'll see improvements in the New Year.

So close out Covid 2020, and let's move on with vaccinations, health and TRAVEL!!!!!!!
